As part of Children's Mental Health Week young people from around the UK were asked to Express Themselves through creative outlets such as writing and art. As part of this initiative I was asked by GSA to create a mural inspired by the students Express Yourself creations for their quiet space/reading area which would be printed on a large 4.5m x 3m vinyl banner.
I was sent some brilliant poetry and artwork which became the foundation of my design.
I really enjoyed the challenge of interpreting the students poetry and artwork into my own design, creating a collaboration of ideas. There was a huge sense of community in the students pieces, and about people looking out for each other, uplifting each other which I thought was important to include. I've also added snippets from the poems - whether taking a direct line or referencing it in other ways like the butterflies or titles on the book spines.
